Honoring Diana Aferzon
About the Fund
The Diana Aferzon Memorial Fund was established to honor the memory of a fierce supporter of Israel and the Jewish people. Prior to immigrating to the United States, Diana experienced blatant antisemitism in the Soviet Union. In her honor, the Diana Aferzon Memorial Fund supports the Israeli hostage rescue and counter terrorism unit, YAMAM, continuing Diana's commitment to the Jewish homeland and securing the life and liberty of Jews worldwide.
About YAMAM
100% of the donations towards Diana Aferzon's Memorial Fund will support the YAMAM unit and their families. YAMAM is Israel’s national special operations counter-terrorism unit, with a specialization in hostage rescue operations. The unit was established in 1974, after the failure of the state of Israel to deal with hostage situations of the time. It was decided then that the YAMAM will belong to the Israeli Border Guard I.N.P (Israel National Police).
Vision: The vision of the YAMAM, created upon its establishment and upheld throughout the years, is to protect the civilians of the state of Israel, to be a role model for an elite unit that considers its commanders and soldiers the source of its strength, and that draws its moral prowess from the spirit of Israel as a Jewish democracy.
Mission Statement: A national unit for hostage rescue and combating terror, with unique methods and capabilities, a high level of quality and readiness to cope with terrorism and major crime.
